WASHINGTON D.C. (WKZO-AM) — Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Michigan, was disappointed over the failure of four gun control measures in the Senate on Monday.
Stabenow said each vote was marred by special interests.
“One of the most-powerful lobbies in Washinton is the National Rifle Association,” Stabenow said. “They’re funded very much by the gun manufacturers and I understand that they don’t want to lose sales.”
Stabenow voted with fellow Democrats on bills to expand background checks and keep people on the terrorist watch list from buying guns. She voted against a Republican background check bill and NRA-endorsed legislation that would have kept suspected terrorists from buying a gun for 72 hours.
The votes were prompted in response to the nightclub shooting in Orlando that left 49 dead.
