VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Van Buren Sheriff’s Office has announced that Kevin Conklin will be the new Undersheriff of the department, according to an official press release.
Born in Decatur, Conklin had a 24-year career with the Michigan State Police. He held positions on the SWAT team, as a Road Patrol Sergeant, and as a Detective Sergeant.
Conklin also served four years with the Army as an MP and is the current VFW Junior State Commander of Michigan.
“The first time I interviewed Kevin about the position, he was very open about wanting to join our office for various reasons which were all positive,” Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbott said in the press release.
“I watched from an outside agency while Sheriff Abbott made many positive changes, built a strong command staff and hired top notch personnel, and I wanted to be a part of that,” Conklin added. “So when I was asked to be the Undersheriff, I didn’t hesitate to take that role. I’m excited about getting started and being able to contribute to the office.”
The Undersheriff position was previously held by Chad Hunt, who had asked to step down and transfer to the Uniform Response Division for personal reasons.
