BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Police in Battle Creek are reporting that a man accused of assaulting a pregnant 12-year-old has turned himself in.
Police say the assault was originally reported last Friday the 16th. The 20-year-old suspect was identified as an ex-boyfriend of the 12-year-old victim.
Police had previously been investigating sexual assault against the teenager as early as June, which is still on-going.
Around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, the suspect turned himself in. He has been booked at the Calhoun County Jail on charges of misdemeanor assault and is reportedly cooperating with police.
The Criminal Sexual Conduct investigation is separate from the assault, and no charges in that case have been made at this time. No further information will be released on the matter.
No names are being released pending arraignment in the assault case.
