KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — After nearly a year since it was suspended, overnight parking enforcement by police in Kalamazoo has resumed. Suspension of the ordinance began in March 2020 when Governor Whitmer issued stay at home orders in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety announced Wednesday that they are resuming street parking enforcement effective immediately. City Ordinance 36-170 prohibits vehicles from being parked on any city street between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., unless otherwise allowed.
The ordinance is especially critical during the winter months. Illegally parked vehicles during times of heavy snowfall can impede the access of snowplows and emergency vehicles.
