PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Portage Department of Public Safety-Fire Division is reporting a structure fire that took place around 5:30 pm Tuesday evening.
Authorities responded to the fire at 9844 S. Sprinkle Road, which was said to be contained in a single bedroom.
Upon arriving, a first floor bedroom was found to be on fire. The blaze was extinguished quickly with no injuries.
Authorities said that residents in the home were alerted by the smell of smoke, and that none of the fire alarms in the house were working at the time.
The contents damaged in the room were estimated at about $4,000, while damage to the structure itself was estimated at around $20,000.
