KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A long-time law enforcement officer is announcing his run for Kalamazoo County Sheriff in 2020.
Republican Shannon Bagley, now retired, worked with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety for over 25-years in several capacities, including being the Captain of the Criminal Investigation Division.
A statement on Bagley’s Facebook page says, “I believe change is needed. The citizens of Kalamazoo deserve leadership focused on service, not politics…It’s time for a fresh perspective, bold ideas and a new direction. The Sheriff should take a leadership role in addressing issues affecting the Kalamazoo County Community. An example is working to reduce recidivism of individuals repeatedly incarcerated in the County jail. I also aim to foster deeper engagement and collaboration with social services as well as non-profits and faith-based organizations to drill down on root causes and positively impact substances abusers, the homeless and those suffering with mental health issues. These groups have significant interaction with Law Enforcement.”
Bagley is the only candidate who has filed so far to run for sheriff in 2020, but incumbent Democrat Sheriff Richard Fuller is expected to make his formal candidacy announcement later this month.
