KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The City of Kalamazoo is asking residents to share their experiences and perspectives on life in the city through the 2026 National Community Survey (NCS).
The survey will gather feedback on quality of life, city services, and community priorities to help guide future decisions and identify opportunities for improvement, asking questions on a wide range of topics, including public safety, housing, transportation, parks, infrastructure, economic opportunities, and overall quality of life.
“Residents experience our community in different ways, and their perspectives are important to understanding how we’re doing and where we can improve,” said Chief Operating Officer Laura Lam. “This survey gives us an opportunity to hear directly from residents, learn what matters most to them, and use that feedback to help guide our work.”
Unlike recent community engagement efforts for Imagine Kalamazoo 2035, which focused on developing a shared vision for the city’s future, the National Community Survey is designed to measure residents’ experiences and perceptions of the community and City services. It also uses a different approach to gathering feedback, beginning with 3,500 randomly selected City of Kalamazoo households that are invited to participate directly.
Initial postcard invitations were mailed Wednesday, and printed survey packets will follow beginning November 11. Households that receive an invitation can complete the survey online or return the printed questionnaire using the included postage-paid envelope.
Beginning December 9, all adult City of Kalamazoo residents will also have an opportunity to participate through an online version of the survey, including those who were not selected to receive a mailed invitation. Both survey opportunities will close December 30.
