KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Two male suspects have been arraigned on murder charges in shooting deaths of two women in Kalamazoo, one of which is believed to be in retaliation for the other.
Bond was denied for 20-year-old Markeet McKinley Primer Jr., who is being charged with Open Murder, Killing/Torturing an Animal, and Felony Firearm.
Authorities believe Primer killed 18-year-old Amaure’ Dora-Lee Lynniah Harris Monday in retaliation for the shooting death of 49-year-old Latraysa Brown Sunday in the 100 block of Reed Avenue.
18-year-old Cedric Martin Gunn was arraigned Friday on charges of Open Murder, Receiving/Concealing a Stolen Weapon, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Receiving/Concealing a Stolen Vehicle, and Felony Firearm in the death of Brown in the 1400 block of Fox Ridge Drive. Bond was denied also.
“Two mothers lost their lives because someone chose to respond to violence with more violence,” said Captain Danielle Guilds of the Criminal Investigations Division. “Neither of these women were involved in the conflicts that led to their deaths, yet they were targeted in their own homes—places where they should have been safe. There is no justification for this kind of violence. Retaliation does not solve anything; it only creates more victims and devastates more families.”
