KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A former clerk for the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office is pleading guilty to a charge of embezzlement.
Marcie Copeland is accused of embezzling more than $20,000 in money that was sent by family members to inmates and for bond costs.
Copeland was fired in May once police became aware of the issue. Officials say the embezzlement goes all the way back to Summer 2018.
Copeland also formerly worked as the treasurer for Decatur Public Schools. She has since left that position in light of the charges.
Copeland could spend up to 10-years in prison and have to pay up to 3-times the amount embezzled. She is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 25.
