KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A moratorium on data centers and other controversial high-tech facilities is back on the Kalamazoo city commission agenda tonight.
They are being asked to accept for first reading modifications to the zoning code establishing the moratorium and to set a public hearing and a final vote for their next meeting.
The aim is to give the city time to redraft their zoning codes to protect the community from the possible adverse impacts of data centers, bitcoin mining operations, battery storage plants and other similar facilities that have stirred up opposition county-wide, statewide and nationwide.
Once it’s official, then the real work will begin.
