KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Public Works have released a massive report on efforts to eliminate a foul smell in an area of the city that has been around it for decades.
The odors are an all too common feature in the area of the city’s wastewater plant and Graphics Packaging near a stretch of Riverview Drive and Gull Road in the city’s northeast side. Director Jim Baker says one of four planned carbon air filters is now complete. They are designing a $4-million dollar bio-filter and have set up three additional sensors since their last report.
Baker says Graphics Packaging is also upgrading their facilities and adding testing stations to track their success. He presented a 124 page summary of a 12-thousand page report to City Commissioners this week, in response to growing community complaints about the stench.
