HASTINGS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Documents from the Barry-Eaton District Health Department say the ricin at Tyden Lofts in Hastings last Thursday that resulted in the complex being cleared for several days came from crushed castor beans.
People who live on the second and third floors were allowed to return home first and residents from apartments 101 to 113 were allowed to return yesterday.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says it is investigating possible exposure sites on the first floor, including the east hallway. Ricin can be deadly if swallowed, injected or breathed.
The resident who had the crushed castor beans remains hospitalized.
