HASTINGS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Residents of Tyden Lofts in Hastings are displaced after a resident was making ricin in their apartment on Thursday.
The FBI is investigating and health officials say teams are taking environmental samples to determine the cleanup that will be needed.
Thursday evening, nearly 150 people were told they had to leave immediately, and many of them weren’t able to get any belongings or their pets.
Hastings Fire Chief Mark Jordan says first responders removed all dogs from the apartments Friday morning, along with collecting medicine and medical devices for residents.
The Barry-Eaton District Health Department says there is no other ricin exposure in Hastings.
