KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — God’s Kitchen of Michigan (formally God’s Kitchen – Battle Creek) has announced that it will be celebrating its 8-year anniversary on Friday, October 11th with a free community dinner.
The organization is well-known for providing free meals to the homeless and hungry. According to an official press release, the celebration dinner will be served from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at their Douglass Community Association meal site, which is located at 1000 West Paterson Street in Kalamazoo.
The free meals will be served in a carryout format and include a choice of barbecue pork spareribs or fried chicken, plus baked beans, potato salad, and other sides.
Sponsors of the event include The John Fetzer Institute, Sam’s Club, and Walmart, among others. The press release also notes the history of the organization.
God’s Kitchen began their free dinner service on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at First Baptist Church in Battle Creek. In 2017, the charity extended its services to Kalamazoo and modified the name to reflect the expansion of service.
During the anniversary dinner, the organization will launch its annual fund drive to raise $75,000. All donations will be used to purchase food, supplies and other operating expenses.
The organization asks that any tax-deductible donations be sent to God’s Kitchen of Michigan, P.O. Box 2632, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49003 or http://www.godskitchenofmichigan.org/donate.
The free dinner service operates on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in Kalamazoo. The Battle Creek location is temporarily closed due to a fire at their Masonic Center meal site.
