KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The skies over Kalamazoo will be quiet for one week later this month, as renovation work takes place on the main runway for the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport.
Commercial air service will be temporarily suspended for seven days beginning at 12:00 a.m. Saturday, September 12. Commercial flights are scheduled to resume September 19.
Airport officials say no commercial flights will arrive at or depart, but the airport will remain open for rental car access and other customer needs. Runways 5-23 and 9-27 will also remain available for eligible airport operations.
They say the temporary suspension will allow contractors to safely complete critical pavement, lighting and airfield work associated with the 450-foot extension of Runway 17-35. The project is designed to provide pilots with additional operational distance, improve safety margins and strengthen the airport’s long-term ability to serve Southwest Michigan.
