KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – They are still drinking bottled water because of the bad pipes at the Kalamazoo County Jail, but the latest round of testing was good news, according to interim County Administrator Terrell Cole.
The latest results of their tests showed acceptable levels of lead and copper at all their testing sites, except for two drinking fountains.
Cole reported to the county board that additional work and testing is now planned.
“We are trending very positively in the reduction and the spot checking of certain fixtures, eliminating those fixtures.”
The two drinking fountains well be replaced in the next few weeks.
“We don’t want to oversell that, we’re going go through another round of testing and we’re looking at October as being the time frame.”
County officials blame supply chain issues, the extent of the problems with their old plumbing, and testing cycles for the time its taking to get the problem fixed.
They continue to be guided by the advice of public health experts.
