SOUTH HAVEN, MI (WKZO AM/FM ) — The South Haven Police Department is warning business owners about a utility scam circulating around the area.
They say scammers have been calling businesses, some even identifying themselves as the South Haven Electric Department, saying that their electric or water will be shut off if they don’t pay their bill over the phone.
Authorities are reminding all residents to never give out their banking information over the phone, when in doubt call the utility provider to confirm, and remember scammers could spoof their number to make it appear as a legitimate utility company.
Businesses should also report any suspected scams to ftc.gov/complaint.
