KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Police in Kalamazoo are reporting a stand-off that lasted for more than an hour resulted in the arrest of one suspect, who was a known parole absconder.
According to an official press release, detectives observed the suspect in the area 3000 block of S Burdick St. on Wednesday, Oct. 23rd around 8:40 a.m. Detectives were also alerted that the suspect may have been armed.
Since the suspect entered a residence prior to officers making contact, contact was instead made with a female at the residence who lied to officers about the suspect’s whereabouts, refusing to cooperate with officers.
Because the suspect has a violent past and may have been armed, the home was surrounded and the Kalamazoo Metro SWAT team was called to assist with the situation.
Police negotiated announcements for over an hour before the suspect exited the residence and gave himself up. The suspect did so peacefully and without incident.
After being questioned by detectives, the 20 year old Kalamazoo man was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail for his parole absconder warrant.
The incident remains under investigation at this time.
