BENTON TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Benton Township supervisor is dead after what MDOT officials are calling a “freak accident.”
48-year-old Kevin White was picking up debris along westbound I-94 near Main Street in Benton Township just after 7 a.m. Wednesday when he was struck by 1 of 2 tires that came off of a semi that was hauling cars.
He was rushed to the hospital where he later died.
The semi-truck driver, a 29-year-old from Wyoming, pulled over immediately when he noticed sparks coming from the tires. He is cooperating with the investigation.
White had been the Benton Township supervisor since 2016, he also served as a township trustee and was employed through MDOT since 2010.
