KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Wednesday is the first anniversary of the arrival of COVID-19 in the U.S. and since then, it has killed over 400,000 Americans and left millions unemployed.
Kalamazoo County Health Officials continue fighting back locally. Director Jim Rutherford says they plan another mass inoculation Wednesday, and between them and the two hospitals, thousands have been vaccinated. He says 27,474 doses have been shipped to Kalamazoo County and that 16,332 doses have been administered.
Among the high profile victims locally, Kalamazoo Mayor Dave Anderson and his wife who have just gotten out of quarantine. Anderson said, in a charming way, that he will never live down the fact that he is probably the one responsible for passing coronavirus to his wife, offering her an apology in a statement to WKZO.
Tuesday was COVID-19 Remembrance Day and ceremonies were held around the nation and locally. Kalamazoo City Hall was lit up with amber lights, which is the official COVID-19 memorial color.
