PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A man is in custody after a domestic assault and about a 3-hour police standoff in Portage.
Public Safety officers were dispatched to the 8,500 block of Newells Lane near Thrushwood Avenue around 3 p.m. Thursday after reports that a 46-year-old husband assaulted his wife.
There were also reports that there was a shotgun in the residence.
The Kalamazoo Metro SWAT team was called in and attempted to negotiate with the suspect for several hours until they forced themselves into the home and tased the man, who was armed with the knife and barricaded himself inside the residence.
He was booked into the Kalamazoo County Jail on charges of domestic assault and resisting and obstructing officers.
