KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — In response to an increased rate of fake currency being passed in Kalamazoo County, the Kalamazoo County Treasurer’s Office is partnering with the United States Secret Service to offer citizens an educational seminar on fraud crimes.
According to an official press release, the partnership will offer a seminar, entitled “Tips from a Secret Service Agent on how to Protect your Organization from Financial Fraud,” over two sessions on Wednesday, November 13.
“We have seen an increase in counterfeit currency being passed in Kalamazoo County. Education is the best way to combat financial crimes,” County Treasurer Mary Balkema said. “We are pleased to be able to bring this important training directly to the citizens of Kalamazoo County.”
Business owners, controllers, or cash drawer operators looking to learn more about how to protect their organization against financial fraud, counterfeit currency, and cyber-crimes are all invited to attend.
The presentation will be led by a Secret Service agent from the Grand Rapids field office, which will then be followed by a question and answer session.
The event is free and open to the public, however registration is requested as seating is limited.
Citizens can register for the event by visiting kalcounty.com/treasurer or by calling the Kalamazoo County Treasurer’s Office at 269-384-8124.
Sessions are offered at both 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the Kalamazoo County Expo Center, which is located at 2900 Lake Street.
