OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A parole absconder is now in the Kalamazoo County Jail after a traffic stop led to a crash, a police foot chase, and a K-9 track.
Deputies attempted to pull over a vehicle for a moving violation on Stadium Drive near South 9th Street in Oshtemo just after 11 p.m. Tuesday but the suspect sped away, later crashing into a snow bank from the icy conditions.
He then got out of the vehicle and fled on foot. Deputies launched K-9 Zeus who tracked the suspect down to an apartment in the 3600 block of Andover Drive at the Pinehurst Townhomes.
The occupants were uncooperative so officers obtained a search warrant and later found the man hiding under a mattress in an upstairs bedroom.
The 28-year-old Kalamazoo man, who was also wanted by the Michigan Department of Corrections for violating his parole from an armed robbery, is now facing additional charges of fleeing and eluding and resisting arrest.
