KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — In the aftermath of their former lawyer’s termination, Kalamazoo County is moving forward with replacing it’s corporate counsel.
On November 6th county commissioners fired corportate counsel Elizabeth White for internal disagreements.
White later filed a federal lawsuit against the county and two commissioners, Julie Rogers and Stephanie Moore, alleging wrongful termination and violation of the Open Meetings Act and Whistleblower Protection Act.
After discussing changes to the position, commissioners voted on Tuesday to hire a recruitment firm to assess any future counsels role with the county and to supply a list of candidates.
That step was taken after a contentious 6-5 vote, with the proposal introduced by recently appointed commissioner Zac Bauer.
Administrators say the recruitment firm could cost taxpayers 25-thousand dollars.
