MACKINAC ISLAND, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Macomb County will be getting $152-million from the state to upgrade runways before a new fighter mission arrives.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed the bill providing the funding for the base on Mackinac Island yesterday.
President Donald Trump announced last April that 21 F-15EX jets would go to Selfridge.
The base supports 30,000 jobs in the state and contributes $850-million to the economy every year.
Lawmakers said without the upgrades, the base likely would have shut down in the near future.
