KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Two teens are in custody after a stolen cellphone lead to a police chase in Kalamazoo’s Northside Neighborhood.
A victim flagged down a Public Safety officer in the 500 block of North Burdick Street around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday saying that their phone was taken during an armed robbery.
Authorities located the suspect, who attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended. The 14-year-old Kalamazoo resident had a BB gun on him that was not distinguishable from a real firearm but did not have the cellphone.
A second suspect, a 15-year-old Kalamazoo resident, was then found at a home in the 1500 block of Krom Street. He tried to escape through a second-story window but was caught after resisting officers.
The stolen cellphone was found inside the home and returned to the owner. The two suspects were take to the county juvenile home pending charges related to the armed robbery and resisting/obstructing officers.
