VOLINIA TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Cass County Sheriffs Deputies responded to a home invasion that lead to a shooting in 20000 block of Marcellus Highway in Volinia Township around 6:30 p.m. Friday.
On scene, deputies questioned 35-year-old Jonathon Niswonger, and 34-year-old Shasta Blankenmyer at who were residing at the home. After further investigation, Niswonger told deputies aware that a 34-year-old man from Elkhart Indiana attempted to force his way into their home. A physical altercation took place when Niswonger shot the intruder in the abdomen.
Police report the Elkhart man then left in his vehicle, and was later found at Elkhart General Hospital where he is currently being treated for a single gunshot wound.
No one has been arrested at this time and the Elkhart man’s name is being withheld so the Cass County Prosecutors Office can review the case.
