KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kalamazoo man is in custody after shots were fired in the city’s South Westnedge Neighborhood, in the same area gunshots were fired a day earlier.
Public Safety officers were called to the 200 block of Pierce Avenue near South Rose Street just before 4 a.m. Wednesday, after a resident heard gunshots and saw a white SUV leaving the area.
Officers located the vehicle fleeing the scene and deployed stop spikes to deflate the driver’s tires.
Two suspects fled on foot and one was found by K-9 Axl in a wooded area near the intersection of Sprinkle and Kilgore Roads, but the other was not located.
A stolen loaded handgun and meth were found inside the vehicle and the 40-year-old Kalamazoo resident was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of meth, and resisting and obstructing.
This comes after shots were fired also in the 200 block of Pierce Avenue around 10:45 p.m. Monday night and a white sedan was seen leaving the area. The 29-year-old suspect in that incident was arrested early Tuesday morning for carrying a concealed weapon and for an outstanding warrant.
The suspect in the most recent incident will be arraigned Thursday.
