BARRY COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The state is looking into a Barry County school district, with possible changes coming soon to its early childhood programs.
Auditors hired by the state government are conducting a review of programs for young children offered by the Barry Intermediate School District.
Accounting service Maner Costerisan has been tasked with the job by the Michigan Department of Education.
The audit comes after a report this year recommended the programs be removed from the district and operated by another, after finding several finance and noncompliance issues.
The Barry ISD took steps to appeal that decision earlier in June, and is awaiting a final verdict by state regulators.
Department officials say that a further investigation is needed through third-party reporting before a decision can be reached.
