KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Ascension Borgess has announced plans to build a new cancer center that will be built in Oshtemo Township.
The new cancer center will be built near the intersection of Stadium Drive and Drake Road. Officials say groundbreaking for the 38,000-square-foot facility is scheduled for Spring 2020.
The facility is expected to be open sometime in June 2021. Services provided in the facility will include medical oncology, hematology and infusion outpatient services.
“We have a proud history of providing health care in Kalamazoo for more than 130 years, and we recognize the importance of expanding our services to meet the community’s changing needs,” Ascension Borgess President and CEO Peter Bergmann said in a statement. “This cancer center will offer convenient access to services for our patients in the greater Kalamazoo area. This is about providing the right care, at the right place, at the right time.”
The 8.2 acre property that the new facility will occupy was purchased from Western Michigan University (WMU), and will be situated in WMU’s BTR Park 2.0.
Officials say this location was chosen for its close proximity to US-131, making it easy to access for patients.
