KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — WOOD TV reported Monday that a man who was arrested in a break-in has received a sentence.
Previously, in November 2019, police had announced that suspect Alex Rawls had attempted to break into the residence of Ben Ball at his Oshtemo Township apartment.
At that time, WOOD TV said Ball was able to fend off Rawls by striking him with a replica battle axe, which Ball trained with in simulated combat. Rawls fled the scene, and police located him by following a trail of blood he left behind.
He later pleaded guilty to charges of home invasion, resisting arrest and assault last October.
On Monday, WOOD TV reported that Rawls received a sentence of 174 days in jail.
However, he was given credit for 174 days already served. He will now pay multiple fees and serve 24 months on probation.
