KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — City officials in Kalamazoo are advising people avoid using water in certain neighborhoods after a water main break on the city’s southside.
A boil water advisory was officially issued on the morning of Monday, December 23rd, as crews began repairing the break on Garfield Avenue.
The advisory affects Garfield Avenue, from South Westnedge Avenue to South Rose Street on both sides of the street. Additionally, portions of South Westnedge Avenue at the northeast and southwest corners of Garfield Avenue are also facing the warning.
City officials say that due to a lack of pressure, the warning is strictly precautionary at this point. There have been no confirmed tests indictating bacteria in water flowing from the break zone, but the city says they’re continuing to monitor all related infrastructure.
It’s expected that repair work will be completed and the advisory will be lifted in 72 hours, or on December 26th.
