KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — A chilly but enthusiastic crowd gathered in front of Kalamazoo City Hall last night for the New Year’s Eve Ball Drop and fireworks, concluding last night’s New Year’s Fest, and kicking off 2018. It’s a year that will include a Winter Olympics, an NFL Playoff without the Lions, but the potential for a great run for the Spartans in March.
In Kalamazoo, the Foundation for Excellence will begin fundraising and accelerate spending on efforts to improve the community and combat poverty.
2018 will also feature mid-term elections in Congress, and the replacement of most top state officials who are term limited. It could also mean statewide votes on legalized marijuana and how we redraw election boundaries.
Brace yourself for endless political ads.
It’s a year that will likely include more political turmoil in Washington, and if a recent poll is accurate, a decline in our global influence, but a strong economy at home.
It will also be a year that will be getting off to a very cold start.
Dress appropriately; don’t be surprised if you are surprised, try to eat more vegetables, get a flu shot and most of us should get through it.
