KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Public Safety says the man who was hit and killed on South Westnedge Avenue last Wednesday night has been identified as 51-year-old Mark McBride.
His family released a statement yesterday, calling McBride a son, brother, father, grandfather, and a friend and his absence leaves an “immeasurable void.”
The vehicle that hit and killed him was found in Galesburg later in the week, but the driver remains on the loose.
McBride was hit and killed on South Westnedge Avenue near Axtell Street.

I live on Westnedge two blocks north of there. It is a drag way, especially if it’s a warm and sunny day. I’ve live here 2 years now and have not once, see police officers maintaining a speed trap or pulling anyone over. Westnedge is a one way street and drag racing and speeding types love it; no oncoming traffic. Same thing on South St. when I lived there too for 3 years. Never saw a speeder pulled over. Zero interest by the county.
