PAW PAW, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Van Buren County Assistant Prosecutor Rachel Keeley has filed her nominating petitions to run in the November election as the next 7th District Court Judge. Keeley submitted the maximum 800 signatures allowed for the race and clearing a major milestone in her campaign.
She says the support she has received from Van Buren County has been incredible and reinforces why she is running, adding that is “to bring the courtroom experience our community needs to the District Court bench, particularly in criminal cases where accountability and public safety are on the line.”
Keeley brings more than a decade of courtroom experience as a prosecutor, and has handled some of southwest Michigan’s most serious cases, including child abuse, sexual assault and domestic violence.
A Van Buren County native, she serves as an assistant prosecutor in the Van Buren County Prosecutor’s Office and previously served in the Allegan County Prosecutor’s Office.
Keeley has been a Safe Harbor team member since 2015, advocating for victims across both Allegan and Van Buren Counties, and serves in Family Reunification Court, a program that helps families heal and rebuild after cases of neglect and abuse.
Her candidacy has earned endorsements from Judge Michael McKay, Judge Susan Metzger, Prosecuting Attorney Susan Zuiderveen and Sheriff Dan Abbott.
Keeley is a graduate of Gobles Public Schools, DePaul University and Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
