DETROIT, MI — With many mid-Michigan schools going on spring break next week, you might be wondering how long the security lines have been this week at Michigan airports. Most indications are that they are not an issue just yet, but the number of travelers is expected to climb throughout the week and into the weekend, observers say.
The issue stems from TSA agents not currently being paid due to the partial government shutdown. There have been reports of shortages of TSA agents at some airports due to some taking sick days.
But in Detroit at Metro Airport, the airport’s security lines were moving quite smoothly as of Monday afternoon, according to the Detroit Free Press. The airport reported on its website, metroairport.com, security wait times of no longer than 5-7 minutes at both the Evans and McNamara terminals.
In Grand Rapids at Gerald R. Ford Airport, officials say wait times in TSA lines have been minimal. The same goes for Capital Region International Airport in Lansing. You can stay up to date on developments there by visiting www.flylansing.com.
