KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day and a number of events are planned again this year to commemorate, celebrate, remember and reinforce the teachings of the civil rights leader.
The Northside Ministerial Alliance will hold their 32nd annual King Celebration Sunday, January 14th at 4pm at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Monday, the City of Kalamazoo has once again organized a King Day of Service. Volunteers who gather at City Hall in the morning will be assigned to local agencies and no-profits to complete short projects, read to seniors and provide other acts of charity. It begins at 8am.
Monday at 10:50 am, Kalamazoo College will hold their annual King Day Convocation at Stetson Chapel.
Monday at 3:30, the annual King Day march will begin at the flagpoles near Kanley Chapel on the WMU Campus, headed for Kalamazoo College, and then downtown to Martin Luther King Jr. Park on North Rose Street. Dress appropriately.
Following the March, Bronson Healthcare and Borgess Medical Center will join forces to throw a celebration for the marchers at the State Theatre, featuring local entertainment, hot chocolate and cookies.
There are many other smaller events that are being organized by local schools and colleges and other organizations that will be held through the week.
