KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – When it comes to public interaction, few local governmental bodies get more of it than the city of Kalamazoo.
Commissioners give the public a chance to speak on any issue at the beginning of meetings at Kalamazoo City Hall, and it usually takes longer to get through than all the other items on the agenda combined.
This week was no exception.
The city commission heard about plans for a cleanup of the Kalamazoo River later this month from the Chubby Mermaids who promoted endurance swimming for the middle aged, and a man who announced he is rigging his car with explosives to deter car thieves.
They also heard from Joel Snyder with the Celebris Ensemble who wrote a new song about Kalamazoo and played it for commissioners.
It’s a blues tune that is mostly about getting dumped by his girl who left his broken heart in Kalamazoo.
That would make it the sequel to “I Gotta Gal in Kalamazoo,” if songs had sequels.
Commissioners also heard concerns about sidewalks, immigration agents, park rules and park safety, dangerous intersections and plans for a Northside event and fundraiser this summer.
Just another night at City Hall.
