COMSTOCK (WKZO AM/FM) — A car-train collision in Comstock Township has turned a Chevy Impala into scrap metal but Kalamazoo County Deputies say that the driver got out in time to see the train scatter parts of the car around the intersection of Leenhouts and E. Michigan.
The driver, a 47-year-old woman from Plainwell says she tried to stop, but slid onto the tracks and got stuck at about 10:17 am.
Other drivers told her the Amtrak train was coming and she was able to get out of the vehicle before the impact.
There were no injuries. There were about 100 passengers on board the train.
The woman was ticketed for failing to stop within an assured clear distance.
