BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office will participate in the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning grant-funded “Move Over or Get Pulled Over” enforcement campaign throughout March 2026.
Deputies will conduct the enforcement on roads across Calhoun County to be sure drivers comply with Michigan’s Move Over Law. Obeying the law improves safety for police, firefighters, EMS, tow truck operators, and road service personnel.
The law requires drivers who are approaching an authorized vehicle with activated flashing, rotating, or oscillating lights to move over to an open lane when safe and slow down to at least 10 miles an hour below the posted speed limit.
The law applies to police, fire, rescue, ambulance, tow trucks, and other authorized emergency or service vehicles.
In just one month last year, seven Michigan State Police patrol vehicles were struck by drivers and nationally, crashes involving emergency vehicles killed 36 people in 2022.
