KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Michigan State Police say a Kalamazoo family survived an eight-vehicle pileup on I-94 in October because they were using seat belts and child restraint seats.
Troopers this week recognized the 40-year-old mother, Jessica, and her two children, ten-year-old Adalynne and four-year-old Charlie, who were being driven to school when the crash happened.
Their SUV was forced through a guardrail and rolled several times down a steep embankment, and Trooper Jacob Onderlinde says he didn’t even know the vehicle was there until he was told when responding to the chaotic scene.
Rescue personnel had to get Adalynne out of the crushed vehicle, and she spent four days in intensive care at the hospital.
