LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Governor Gretchen Whitmer has delivered her eighth and final State of the State address to a joint session of the Michigan Legislature.
Whitmer spoke about the gains the state has made since she took office, noting incomes are up, Michigan’s population is up, taxes for senior citizens are lower, the state reached the goal of adding 75,000 homes a year ahead of schedule, and has built and fixed more roads.
She did say, however, more needs to be done. Whitmer focused part of the address on her budget proposal with a big investment in literacy efforts.
She also reflected on her time as a state representative and senator.
Whitmer’s address lasted 48-minutes, far shorter than President Trump’s State of the Union address Tuesday night. Trump’s speech was the longest in American history and went on for an hour and 48 minutes.
