LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Michigan House Speaker Matt Hall of Richland is opposed to spending more state money on the Rx Kids program.
Rx Kids pays pregnant mothers $1,500 when they are expecting and $500 a month for the child’s first year in several communities like Flint, Kalamazoo, Detroit, Pontiac, and Ypsilanti.
There are also plans underway to expand Rx Kids across all of Kalamazoo County.
Hall says the program has “a lot of money.”
Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield said last week the Rx Kids program is vital.
Most participants use the money on baby supplies, housing, and utilities.
