LANSING, MI — The Lansing School District has appointed Jessica Benavides as interim superintendent to succeed Ben Shuldiner, who departed the school system last month for the top job with Seattle schools.
Benavides has served as the district’s first deputy superintendent since July, according to the announcement. She previously worked as a teacher and principal for Lansing schools and grew up in the mid-Michigan area.
Her primary focus is maintaining district operations to ensure learning continues without disruption during the transition, Benevides told WILX TV in Lansing.
Another priority for Benavides is strengthening connections with the city of Lansing. She told TV-10 she hopes to build relationships early in her role.
