KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Public Schools superintendent Darrin Slade delivered his first strategic plan update to the trustees last night.
It is like a report card on the whole school district. It tracks district progress on academic achievement, family engagement, school safety, fiscal responsibility, operational efficiency and quality workforce.
It turns out Dr. Slade is a tough grader. Despite above average progress in graduation rates, test scores, attendance, behavior improvements and a wide range of other subjects, the grade he gives out most often in the report is “adequate.”
He says one area the district shines is in fiscal responsibility, how it handles and budgets tax dollars.
He says one area where improvement is needed is in the diversification of the workforce.
Trustee Carol McGlinn says the strategic plan is all about accountability.
Slade says he plans the first of two community sessions to present and take questions on the strategic plan for February 23rd at Milwood Magnet School at 6 p.m.
