KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Portions of I-94 and U.S. 131 were shut down Tuesday morning with multiple crashes involving semi-tractor trailers.
Northbound U.S. 131 was closed shortly after 10:45 a.m.
Around 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, multiple crashes including several jackknifed semi-trucks closed all lanes of west I-94 after the Portage Road exit, eventually extending to after Sprinkle Road. The area reopened around 11:30 a.m.
Another crash on eastbound I-94 near Oakland Drive just after 10:00 a.m. closed all lanes and the exit ramp. They were reopened around 11:20 a.m.
In Allegan County, Michigan State Police say a crash involving about 17 vehicles, including five semi-trucks, happened on southbound I-196 at mile marker 23 north of South Have around 11:00 a.m. Troopers say there were whiteout conditions in the area.
30 vehicles were involved in a crash on M-6 near Thornapple River Drive, southeast of Grand Rapids, around 10:45 a.m.
Kalamazoo and Allegan counties are among the areas under a Winter Weather Advisory until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.
