SHERIDAN TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Sheriff’s detectives in Calhoun County are investigating a breaking and entering incident at the River Fork Solar facility after two individuals were captured on surveillance footage attempting to steal copper wire early Monday morning.
Deputies from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office responded to a complaint at the large solar energy site around 4:00 a.m. on Monday.
Video evidence shows the suspects cutting a padlock to access the property before trying to remove copper wiring, but they apparently abandoned the effort due to adverse weather conditions and fled the scene without taking any materials.
This latest breach marks the third reported breaking-and-entering complaint at the River Fork Solar location in the past month.
Previous incidents involved the theft of a zero-turn mower, various power tools, and a significant quantity of copper wiring. The Sheriff’s Office is actively working to identify the individuals involved and has increased patrols in the area as the investigation continues.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Lieutenant Curtis Smith at 269-781-0880 or submit an anonymous tip through Silent Observer at 269-964-3888.
