KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A man is dead and the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is still looking for the murder suspect in the Sunday night shooting.
Officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 100 block of Reed Avenue around 10 p.m. after a caller reported hearing gunfire and said a person had been shot in the area. The first responding officer located a 31-year-old man on the sidewalk with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper back.
The man was taken to a local hospital, where he died shortly afterward.
KDPS says their investigation led to the execution of search warrants at three locations in Kalamazoo. During the searches, officers seized three handguns, one rifle and additional evidence.
A 43-year-old man was arrested on weapons-related charges and lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail.
They say the homicide suspect has not yet been located, but the KDPS Criminal Investigations Division is actively investigating the shooting.
