LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Michigan Senate has approved a bill to ban cell phones in all K-12 public school classrooms.
The House passed the bill earlier this week and the Senate vote signaled bicameral support for a rare bipartisan effort in education policy.
Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt of Van Buren County said the bill is “a good reminder that education policy shouldn’t be partisan.”
The House needs to approve a bill tie-barred in the Senate to provide exemptions for using a cell phone in an emergency before it goes to Governor Whitmer for her signature.
