KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo County board will be asked Tuesday to approve funding from the Housing for All Millage to a couple of downtown multi-family housing projects.
One of the grants will be for a 85-unit workforce housing project near Bronson Hospital called the “B on Burdick.”
It is the 3rd project proposed by Bogan Development to receive county housing dollars. The mixed-use development would also feature a childcare facility, a fitness studio and a grocery store.
The other project would be the first request by AVB builders, one of the larger local construction firms.
They want to build a project with 71 units at the site of the former Kalamazoo Public Safety station between Burdick and Rose on Cedar Street. The structure has been closed for 20 years and is considered a blight.
Both will be priced to provide housing for downtown workers at Bronson Healthcare, Kalamazoo Valley Community College, W-Med and other large employers.
The funding is also pending completion of all the proper paperwork.
